Okay, I’m going to post something that someone originally from Reddit pointed out that Daniel Ingram comfirmed himself:
There was actually a double meaning in the song. The song is in the key of Db Major (just like winter wrap up and smile!) . That means that the root chord is a Db major chord. Usually, a Ab major chord will lead into a Db major. This is the V-I chord progression and it is also known as the Authentic Cadence (stick with me here). Now, when a chord progression seems to be heading to the root chord but lands on the relative minor instead, that is called a…
So this is, personally, for me, not the best written or most catchy song thus far— I’m not going to listen to it on repeat any time in the future. I usually don’t, with story-songs, they’re too narrative to stick in my head.
But god damn. Just listen to that sophisticated instrumentation. Seriously just— take a playthrough to pay attention to the multi-layered composition.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think the earlier songs had that.
I’ve noticed distinctly that this season has been steadily improving both their animation and music— compare the “Smile Smile Smile” forward walk cycle to the forward walk cycle in some of the Season 1 songs, compare some of the complicated actions the ponies are doing now, take a look at how many of the most recent episodes have featured snippets in an alternative style, which god do I love those— and idk! I’m just really glad that this show’s financial and critical success is leading to them being able to give more back to their audiences!
This is my favorite MLP song 8u8
Reminds me a lot of a Disney movie song…great song nevertheless
